Biofeedback

It can relieve pain

(HealthDayNews) -- If you suffer from chronic pain or insomnia, biofeedback may help relieve symptoms, according to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Biofeedback trains people to consciously regulate certain body functions. Electronic measuring instruments monitor functions such as pulse rate, blood pressure and muscle tension, and by watching the signals, patients learn how to control these physical measures through visualization or concentration.

In some cases, biofeedback may be helpful in treating:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis pain.
  • Tension and migraine headaches.
  • Incontinence.
  • Hypertension.
  • Attention deficit disorder.
  • Stress management.
