  • Stop smoking and avoid caffeine.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol.
  • Say "no" to fatty and spicy foods.
  • Don't overeat.
  • Lose weight if you need to.
  • Don't eat within three hours of bedtime.
  • Raise the head of your bed four to six inches.
  • Avoid pain relievers that could upset your stomach.
