Phenotypic and genetic links tie body mass index (BMI) to osteoarthritis (OA). Data from the United Kingdom Biobank revealed the risk for OA diagnosis increased with increasing BMI; there was a positive genetic correlation between BMI and OA, with similar effects in sex- and site-specific analyses.
