Paper or Plastic?

Which grocery bag is better for you

(HealthDayNews) -- You're at the supermarket checkout counter and the cashier asks you if you want a paper bag or a plastic one.

If you're like most people, you start thinking about which type of bag is better for taking out garbage, and which will decompose faster if it goes into a landfill ...

But if you're a regular reader of the Journal of Human Ergology, you might decide to go with the plastic bags. When researchers at Wichita State University, Kansas, studied the subject, they concluded that using the handles of plastic bags improved lifting efficiency by 27 percent.

That means that you're less likely to suffer lower back injuries from plastic than paper.
