You don't have to pitch to hurt your rotator cuff

Damaged rotator cuffs are an occupational hazard for baseball pitchers, but it could also happen to you.

This common source of pain is caused by soreness of the tendon of the rotator cuff -- the part of the shoulder that helps with circular motion, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians.

You'll know you've hurt your rotator cuff if the pain is in the front or outside of the shoulder. The pain is usually worse when you raise your arm or lift something above your head.

Your next move: Get to the doctor.
