Raising Cane

Make sure your walking stick is the correct height

Your doctor says you'd be better off if you used a cane while your leg heals. So you buy one at the drugstore, but it just doesn't seem to fit you.

An article on About.com offers this quick test to make sure your cane is the right height. Stand up and hold the cane with the curved end on the floor. If the tip of the cane stretches above your wrist, the cane is too big. If it falls short of your wrist, it's too short.

The article also says it's important to frequently replace the rubber tip on your cane. It can wear out, which will make the cane unsafe.
