That Bone Really May be Broken

Just because you can move it doesn't mean it's not fractured

(HealthDay) -- You've just fallen hard and your foot aches, but you can move it despite the pain. So, you think nothing is seriously wrong, just a bruise or sprain, right? Maybe not.

Often you can walk with certain kinds of bone breaks, but the American Podiatric Medical Association says that kind of thinking interferes with proper treatment.

The association says when you think you have a sprain or a break, you need to be examined by a doctor. It's OK to apply ice immediately after the injury occurs, but avoid heat because it promotes swelling.
