Health Tip: Seek Treatment for a Broken Toe

It may not heal properly on its own

(HealthDay News) -- If you break a toe, it may not heal on its own without treatment.

The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons says complications of a broken toe may include:

  • Developing a deformity in the bone, which can cause problems with mobility and in fitting shoes.
  • Developing arthritis in the affected joint.
  • Having chronic pain.
  • Requiring surgery if the toe doesn't heal properly.
