Health Tip: Treating Plantar Warts

Have them evaluated and treated by a professional

(HealthDay News) -- Plantar warts are painful bumps that affect the soles of the feet. They're caused by a virus, and are typically picked up by walking barefoot on surfaces where the virus lurks.

The American Podiatric Medical Association offers these suggestions for treating plantar warts:

  • Don't attempt to treat them yourself with an over-the-counter medication. Instead, seek professional treatment.
  • If you have diabetes, a circulatory problem, immune system condition, or neurological problem, tell your medical professional, who should implement treatment with caution.
  • Understand that warts are easily spread elsewhere on your body or to others. Don't delay in having warts evaluated by a professional.
