Man Has the Edge

Cotton socks can cause foot problems for athletes

You love to workout. And you want to wear the right clothes, not just ones that look good, but the kind that help you work out better.

So you choose cotton socks. After all, natural is always best. Or is it? No, say experts at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. They say man-made fibers are better for foot health.

That's because the cotton socks hold moisture when you perspire, irritating your skin and causing blisters. Man-made fibers don't cause that problem, and they whisk away sweat, helping to protect you from fungus problems.
