(HealthDay News) -- Hodgkin's disease is a type of lymphoma, a cancer affecting the lymphatic system, which defends the body against infection and disease.
The cause of Hodgkin's disease is unknown, but people who have had the Epstein-Barr virus that causes infectious mononucleosis may be slightly more likely to develop the disease, the Nemours Foundation says.
Symptoms of Hodgkin's include swollen glands, muscle aches, fevers, excessive sweating, shortness of breath and unexplained weight loss. Many people with the disease have swollen lymph nodes in the armpit, neck or groin.
If Hodgkin's disease is suspected, your doctor may order imaging tests that can help evaluate the health of your lymph nodes and spleen, the foundation says.
