(HealthDay News) -- Secondhand smoke can be a major health threat to people who are frequently exposed.

The University of Michigan Health System says potential effects include:

  • Increased risk of ear infections and hearing problems.
  • Greater risk of upper respiratory infection.
  • Increased risk of bronchitis or pneumonia.
  • Decreased lung function.
  • Increased risk of asthma.
  • Increased risk of cataracts, lung cancer and heart disease.
