(HealthDay News) -- About 3 percent of cancer cases that affect women are ovarian cancer, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists notes.
The organization says the following factors increase a woman's risk of cancer of the ovary:
- Being 40 or older.
- Being white.
- Having never been pregnant, or having a first pregnancy at age 30 or older.
- Having a family history of colorectal, breast or ovarian cancer.
- Having had breast cancer yourself.
- Having gone through menopause at age 50 or older.
- Having taken fertility medication.
