(HealthDay News) -- Abnormal moles may indicate skin cancer. To spot a mole that could be malignant, follow these suggestions from the Cancer Research Institute:
- A -- Asymmetry -- Cancerous moles tend to have an irregular shape.
- B -- Border -- Cancerous moles often have abnormal borders that may have ragged edges.
- C -- Color -- Multiple colors or shades of brown and black often appear in cancerous moles, rather than a solid shade.
- D -- Diameter -- Cancerous moles are usually larger than benign moles -- typically about the size of a pencil eraser or larger.
If you spot a mole with any of these characteristics, see your doctor to have it checked out.
