(HealthDayNews) -- We all know the dangers of too much exposure to the sun. But did you know that staying in the shade may not offer enough protection?
A study by the folks at James Cook University in Queensland, Australia, found that shady areas may block visible light, but they don't always offer protection from the ultra-violet light that causes sunburn and skin cancer.
Researchers reporting in the International Journal of Biometeorology suggest a veranda with a great deal of overhang, to protect against the angled light of the afternoon sun.
