(HealthDay News) -- Sunburn is more than a short-term discomfort, as it can permanently damage your skin and eyes.

The Mayo Clinic says potential effects of sun exposure include:

  • Premature skin aging, including symptoms such as wrinkles, discoloration and sagging skin.
  • Skin lesions that may eventually become cancer.
  • Damage to the eyes.
