Don't Miss a Stroke

Recognize early warning signs

If you or someone you know is having a stroke, there's nothing more important than recognizing the early warning signs and getting immediate medical attention. A few minutes could mean the difference between life and death.

The Mayo Clinic lists these warning signs:

  • sudden numbness or weakness of one side of the face, arm or leg;
  • loss of or trouble understanding speech;
  • blurred or decreased vision, usually in one eye;
  • dizziness, loss of balance or loss of coordination;
  • sudden, severe headache with no apparent cause, and
  • difficulty swallowing.

The symptoms can be momentary, the Clinic says.
