Health Tip: Caregivers, Take Time to Relax
Don't let your relationship suffer
(HealthDay News) -- No matter for whom you're caring, you need to make time for yourself. Taking just a few minutes each day to relax can help you feel better and prevent frustration from hurting the relationship between you and your loved one.
The American Heart Association offers these suggestions to give caregivers a boost:
- Sneak in a 10-minute walk by yourself when possible.
- Designate a quiet, peaceful place at home where you can go to relax -- pray, read or enjoy some music. Schedule "you" time when your loved one is sleeping or watching TV, for example.
- Don't let your loved one discourage your quiet time. Reward the person after you've had a chance to relax.
