Cell-Phone Controversy Continues

Scientist says radiation from the devices speeds up brain processes

(HealthDay) -- The latest in the scientific controversy over the safety of mobile phones comes from a British scientist who says radiation from the devices speeds up chemical processes in the brain, reports The Washington Post.

The story says scientific opinion may be swinging toward the notion that prolonged use of cell phones may have risks, though the majority of health experts still feels that driving while using the phones is considerably more dangerous.

The British Department of Health has issued a point-by-point response to the findings of an expert panel, known as the Stewart Group, which reported there may be a risk to cell-phone use.

In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration launched a three-to-five-year study of the issue more than a year ago, reports CNN News.
