Health Tip: Check for Signs of Concussion

(HealthDay News) -- Concussions are injuries to the brain that are common while playing sports. Early recognition of the symptoms are especially important among young people, who may take longer than adults to recover.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons says typical symptoms of concussion include:

  • Feeling drowsy or having changes in sleep patterns.
  • Having a headache, feeling nauseous or vomiting.
  • Losing consciousness or losing memory.
  • Feeling confused or irritable.
  • Having problems trying to speak.
  • Feeling dizzy or having trouble with balance.
  • Feeling depressed.
