WEDNESDAY, April 12, 2017 (HealthDay News) -- Americans spent $16 billion on cosmetic plastic surgery and minimally invasive procedures in 2016, according to a new report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The most popular surgical procedures and their national average costs were: breast augmentation -- 290,467 procedures at a cost of $3,719 each; liposuction -- 235,237 procedures at $3,200; nose reshaping -- 223,018 procedures at $5,046; tummy tuck -- 127,633 procedures at $5,798; and buttock augmentation -- 18,489 procedures at $4,356.
The most popular minimally invasive cosmetic procedures and their national average costs were: botulinum toxin type-A injections -- seven million procedures at a cost of $385 each; hyaluronic acid fillers -- two million procedures at $644 each; chemical peel -- 1.3 million procedures at $673 each; microdermabrasion -- 775,014 procedures at $138 each; and laser treatments -- 656,781 procedures at $433 each.
The cost of most procedures went up from 2015 to 2016. The only exception was the national average cost of breast augmentation surgery. This surgery was 2.7 percent less expensive. Liposuction costs went up 6.1 percent, and nose reshaping surgery costs increased by 5.6 percent. Botulinum toxin type-A injection costs went up less than 1 percent. Hyaluronic acid and chemical peel costs went up 5.0 and 5.7 percent, respectively, according to the report.
