Dementia Tied to Cirrhosis, Hepatic Encephalopathy

Dementia is commonly diagnosed in patients with cirrhosis and correlates with hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Among 71,552 veterans with cirrhosis, 7.9% had dementia; dementia correlated with a diagnosis of HE independent of alcohol use, brain injury, age, and other metabolic risk factors.
