Battling Bad Breath

Chronic odor usually can be treated easily

(HealthDay) -- We all suffer from bad breath from time to time. Usually, it's no big deal. A little mouthwash or a breath mint will get rid of that garlic smell from that pizza you just ate.

But in some cases, bad breath can be harder to conquer.

The University of Washington Physicians Online says a common cause of persistent bad breath, or halitosis, can be certain bacteria caused by periodontal disease. Treating the disease can help overcome breath odor. Other causes of bad breath include medications that cause dry mouth, which can be overcome by sucking on sugarless gum or lemon drops.

If you have persistent bad breath, consult your doctor or dentist. Tests can determine whether you have a chronic problem and what might be causing it.
