Foul Mouth

What you can do about bad breath

(HealthDayNews) -- Having bad breath isn't just bad karma. Halitosis can be caused by medical ailments, such as a sinus infection or kidney failure, but the majority of bad breath cases begin in the mouth.

So once you've ruled out a medical condition, you can take some steps to freshen your breath.

The University of Manitoba in Canada offers these suggestions:

  • Have your teeth professionally cleaned.
  • Floss religiously but use unscented brands so smells can be easily detected.
  • Brush or scrape your tongue daily.
  • Drink plenty of liquids but avoid coffee. It can make bad breath worse.
  • Eat parsley; it's a breath-saver.
