Never Too Early for Dental Care

Even infants at risk for problems

Dental care for your infant, even before the appearance of that first tooth? Absolutely, health experts say.

Parents should never let their infant suck on a milk or juice bottle all day, says the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. The sugars in the beverages can promote the growth of bacteria in the mouth that can damage new teeth.

The center also recommends that parents wipe their baby's gums after feeding time. And once teeth emerge, parents should gently brush them after meals and before bedtime.
