Simple steps you can take

(HealthDayNews) -- If all of those reports about the increase in the number of Americans with diabetes have you worried, here's some good news that may make you feel better.

The University of California-Davis Health System offers three steps that can help keep you free of the degenerative disease. They are:

  • achieve and maintain proper body weight;
  • make sure you include plenty of fiber in your diet;
  • and exercise every day for at least 30 minutes.

UC-Davis adds that if you already have diabetes, it's even more important that you follow these steps to keep the disease in check.
