Tips for dealing with a sick kid

Sometimes, when your child has a fever, it's nothing to worry about. Other times, you need to take action.

Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has some tips so you'll know the difference. Generally, if your child has a fever of 102°F or less, it's not a big problem. The medical center advises rest, lots of liquids and diversions like books, television or small crafts projects. You can give your child anything she wants to eat.

On the other hand, a higher fever means you should contact your doctor. Rather than a virus, the higher fever may indicate strep throat or an ear infection. Be aware that high fever in a child also can cause seizures.
