If there's one thing they know about in Texas, it's heat. Every summer seems to bring new stories of sweltering weather in the Lone Star State.
So who better to give tips for surviving hot weather than the Texas Department of Health? Its advice includes: Drink plenty of fluids but avoid drinks with alcohol, caffeine and sugar; avoid strenuous activity in the middle of the day when it's hottest; check on elderly relatives and neighbors; and never leave anyone in a parked, closed-up car.
In addition, the department advises you to check with your doctor to make sure none of your medications interact badly with heat.
