Health Tip: Symptoms That May Indicate Kidney Stones

A primary warning sign is severe, sudden pain

(HealthDay News) -- When certain substances in the urine crystallize to form a solid mass in the kidney or ureter, a kidney stone is born.

The University of Maryland Medical Center says kidney stone symptoms may include:

  • Severe pain that comes on quickly and may quickly disappear. The pain often is confined to one side of the back, or the abdomen.
  • An unusual color to the urine.
  • Blood that appears in the urine.
  • Fever or chills.
  • Vomiting or feeling nauseated.
  • Soreness in the back or belly when touched.
  • Pain in the groin or testicles.
