(HealthDay News) -- Chronic renal failure is a serious condition that, over time, causes the kidneys to stop working properly.
The University of Virginia Health System offers this list of conditions that could lead to chronic renal failure:
- Damage to the kidneys in people with diabetes.
- Persistent high blood pressure.
- The autoimmune disease lupus.
- A lingering blockage in the urinary tract.
- Hereditary conditions such as cystinosis or Alport syndrome.
- Nephrotic syndrome.
- Polycystic kidney disease.
- Inflammation of structures inside the kidneys.
