(HealthDay News) -- A skin rash often isn't a major worry, but there are warning signs that it could mean trouble.

The American Academy of Dermatology says medical intervention in warranted when a rash:

  • Spreads across the entire body. This could indicate a serious allergic reaction.
  • Is accompanied by fever. This warrants an immediate trip to the emergency room, as it could indicate a serious infection.
  • Spreads suddenly and very quickly.
  • Forms blisters.
  • Becomes painful.
