(HealthDay News) -- Bed bugs are pests that are easily spread, and getting rid of them can be a real challenge.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency mentions these possible non-chemical treatments for bed bugs:
- Wash all bedding and clothing, then put them in the dryer on a very high heat setting. Washing alone won't kill the insects.
- Heat anything infested with bed bugs to a temperature of at least 113 degrees Fahrenheit for at least one hour.
- Freeze items infested with bed bugs to 0 degrees Fahrenheit or lower for at least one hour.
- Cover mattresses, pillows and box springs with protective encasements.
