Ethnicity Affects Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia Risk

Ethnicity impacts risk for gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM). In a retrospective study of 2,685 patients, the GIM prevalence in Asians, Hispanics, Blacks, and Whites was 14.7%, 11.7%, 9.8% and 5.8%, respectively. Age, smoking, and race were associated with GIM in a multivariable analysis.
