Black Eye Soothings

Use a cold compress, not a slab of steak

It's the classic remedy for a sock in the eye: A thick, cold steak.

No one's quite sure why people started believing it was a good idea, but the Medical College of Wisconsin says don't believe it anymore. The college advises you to apply ice-cold compresses to the eye and see an eye doctor immediately.

And then maybe grill up that steak, open a bottle of wine and try to forget the pain.
