FRIDAY, April 14, 2017 (HealthDay News) -- A series of short videos focusing on increasing influenza, zoster, and pneumococcal vaccine uptake among adults have been created, according to a report from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

The AAFP created three online videos to help family physicians educate adult patients on the benefits of vaccination for use with vaccine-hesitant patients. The videos include techniques such as reflective listening, increasing knowledge among patients, supporting patient autonomy, and providing strong recommendations to educate patients on vaccine importance.

The videos provide stories that explain the rationale behind physician recommendations, helping to put things in perspective for patients. They also allow patients to get a recap of advice provided in an office visit. Links can be provided to the videos, but they could also be played in the waiting room or provided to patients on a tablet while waiting before an office visit. The videos can be used as standalone tools or as part of an overall strategy to increase vaccine uptake.

The videos were provided to all 25 family medicine practices and residencies that are participating in the AAFP Adult Immunization Office Champions project, which runs through 2019 and focuses on increasing immunization for influenza, zoster, and pneumococcal vaccines among adult patients.
