Don't Tire of Practicing Bike Safety

Always wear a helmet

(HealthDayNews) -- Why are more and more municipalities enacting bicycle safety laws? Because biking, especially without a helmet, can be dangerous.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

  • Three of four bike accidents result in head injuries for the biker,
  • Head injuries can result in permanent brain damage or, worse, death,
  • National standards ensure helmets are built to guard against injuries, but fit is not regulated, nor are add-on accessories.

The NHTSA says helmets make riders more visible, and that alone helps prevent accidents.
