Bicycle helmets prevent serious head injuries

(HealthDayNews) --If your kids won't wear helmets lest they be seen as "uncool," the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests you try these tactics to change their minds:

  • Have your children wear helmets as soon as they start to ride bikes.
  • Wear a helmet yourself. Children learn more from what you do than what you say.
  • Tell your kids what can happen to them if they fall on their unprotected heads.
  • Reward them for spontaneously donning a helmet.
  • Be consistent. Don't let them ride their bikes without a helmet, even if it's just down the street.
