Mountain Biking

How to reduce your risk of injury

(HealthDayNews) -- Mountain biking can be a relatively safe sport, but preparation can reduce your risk of getting hurt.

Your helmet is your most important piece of equipment, so don't skimp on price, advises Aspen Valley Hospital. Choose one with an ASNI- or Snell-approval sticker and a bright color that can be seen easily by others. Replace your helmet after an accident or every three years.

Here are some other safety tips:

  • Buy a good pair of safety glasses.
  • Wear full-fingered bicycling gloves. These protect your hands in case of a fall, and help prevent blisters.
  • Replace vital parts on your bike regularly.
