Health Tip: If You're Inline Skating

Here's how to apply the brake

(HealthDay News) -- Inline skating can be great exercise and a lot of fun. But when you're on a roll and it's time to slow down, make sure you know how to brake safely.

The American Council on Exercise mentions these suggestions:

  • Keep arms in front of you, knees and legs relaxed, posture upright and roll slowly forward on both feet.
  • Holding that posture, stagger (scissor) your right foot in front of your left foot a few inches.
  • With feet in the scissor position, lift your right toe until you feel the brake engage.
  • Keep ankles and knees flexed and stay relaxed, and slowly come to a stop. It probably will take at least a few feet.
