Health Tip: How to Run Like the Wind

Change your shoes

(HealthDayNews) -- You should probably change your walking and running shoes more often than you think, according to the American Podiatric Medical Association.

Running shoes should be changed every 350-to-500 miles. If these shoes are exposed to temperature extremes, weathering will age them prematurely and result in a loss of shock absorption.

Walking shoes are subject to less stress than running shoes. If you walk four miles a day, change your walking shoes every six to nine months.

Finally, and probably most important, make sure to choose your sport socks carefully. Socks that carry moisture away from the foot are helpful in preventing athlete's foot and blisters. The best moisture-wicking socks are made primarily from synthetic fibers.
