Hit the Pool

Water offers a great place to work out

If you're looking for a new way to break up your exercise routine, consider swimming. Exercising in water has advantages over activities like running.

For instance, because of water's buoyancy, stress on joints and bones is lessened. That means you're unlikely to be injured or sore after a water workout, says the American Council on Exercise.

Other advantages: You can work on flexibility because water allows more range of motion, and the resistance of the water is good for strength training.

The council recommends you join an aquatic program to get the most out of pool workouts.
