(HealthDayNews) -- Are you slender and exercise regularly, yet you still have a bulging stomach? According to the Mayo Clinic, you may have a genetic tendency to accumulate fat in that area, or you may have grown flabbier as you've grown older.
Whatever the reason, there are things you can do to flatten and tighten your abs:
- Get regular, general exercise. Sit-ups alone won't flatten the bulge.
- Target lower and deeper abdominal muscles. Lie on your back with your knees bent. Flatten your back against the floor by tightening your abdomen and bending your pelvis up. Hold for five to 10 seconds, and work up to 10 to 20 repetitions.
- Stand tall. Slouching accentuates a bulging tummy.
- Beware of bloating. Foods such as beans, cabbage and bran can cause bloating.
