What that pink antacid is good for

(HealthDayNews) -- The people who sell bismuth subsalicylate suspension -- that's the pink antacid -- spend lots of money to tell you all the good things their product does for your digestive system.

But for some reason, they never mention one of its most important benefits -- odor reduction.

According to the journal Gastroenterology, four doses a day of bismuth suspension can reduce hydrogen sulfide emissions, which the journal politely explains is "one of the main malodorous compounds in human flatus" by more than 95 percent.

The treatment takes about a week to start working, so be sure to plan ahead.
