Health Tip: Change Diet to Combat Constipation
(HealthDay News) -- Constipation typically is diagnosed when there are fewer than three bowel movements per week.
Making changes to what you eat and drink can relieve constipation. And including fiber-rich food in your diet is a great starting point, says the National Institutes of Health.
The NIH mentions these good sources of fiber:
- Whole grains.
- Legumes.
- Fruits and vegetables.
- Nuts.
Drinking lots of water also may help soften stools, making them easier to pass.
