Curbing Burping

It's caused by swallowing too much air

(HealthDayNews) -- Belching is caused by swallowing too much air, and there are steps you can take to prevent it.

Penn State University suggests these remedies:

  • Remind yourself to eat and drink more slowly.
  • Avoid chewing gum, gas-producing foods and drinks, and other triggers.
  • Use controlled breathing to deal with anxiety and hyperventilation.

A teaspoon of baking soda diluted in water can relieve the pain associated with not being able to belch. Or you can lie on your side or in a knee-chest position until the gas passes.
