Shock Treatment

Helping victims of electric shocks

If you've ever been hit with an electric shock, you know how scary it can be.

The Mayo Clinic says even if external damage is minor, damage to the heart and other organs can be significant. If you see someone receive an electric shock, call for help immediately.

While waiting for help to arrive, make sure the victim is breathing. Perform CPR if necessary. Once the person is breathing, cover any burns with a sterile gauze pad or a clean cloth. Never use a blanket because fibers can stick to the wound, the clinic says.
