Health Tip: How Often Do Kids Need to Bathe?

(HealthDay News) -- Some children love taking a shower, while others find it just another chore to struggle with.

Thankfully, for the parents of kids in the latter category, a daily shower may not be necessary, the American Academy of Dermatology says.

While a daily bath or shower shouldn't hurt kids aged 6 to 11, it isn't absolutely needed, the academy says. Kids in this age group should bathe or shower at least twice weekly, when they get really dirty, if they develop body odor, or if they've been swimming in a lake or the ocean.

Tweens and teens, on the other hand, should bathe or shower daily, wash the face twice daily to remove oil and dirt, and bathe or shower after playing sports, exercising or swimming, the academy says.
