Health Tip: Need Extra Vitamin C?

People who may have a deficiency

(HealthDay News) -- Vitamin C is important to help the body heal from injury. But people with certain health conditions may be deficient and need to take vitamin C supplements, the U.S. National Library of Medicine says.

Here's a list of people who may be at risk of having too little vitamin C in their systems:

  • People who smoke.
  • People preparing for or recovering from surgery.
  • Patients with artificial kidneys.
  • People who have been exposed to cold temperatures for long periods.
  • Babies fed unfortified formula.
