Health Tip: Skateboarding Savvy
Some safety pointers
(HealthDayNews) -- Well-made and good-fitting skating equipment and protective gear are a child's best defense against injury, so it's wise to shop for new gear at a store where the staff is knowledgeable.
Skateboarders should wear a helmet, wrist, knee and ankle pads as well as closed, slip-resistant shoes, long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
Here are some other safety pointers, courtesy of Akron Children's Hospital:
- Teach your child to keep his eyes on the road. Many injuries are caused by irregular surfaces.
- Don't let your kids skate at night or in heavy traffic areas.
- Teach your child to crouch, relax and roll when he falls.
