(HealthDayNews) -- Before you take your kids sledding, heed these safety tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics:
- Look for smaller, gently sloped hills without trees, fences or other obstacles.
- Avoid areas around parked cars and paths that run into roadways.
- Be sure the sled, tube, or toboggan is in good condition.
- If your child is under age six, slide down with him or her.
- Have your child wear a ski or hockey helmet (not a bicycle helmet).
